As part of the Government’s Asia initiative, Business Sweden is leading a large business delegation to South Korea and Japan to strengthen and expand trade relations with these key partners.
“We are taking important steps to further deepen trade relations with Japan and South Korea. A significant business delegation will accompany the Prime Minister and ministers on this visit. Asia continues to grow in importance, with high growth expected to persist. Countries like South Korea and Japan are vital partners with whom we aim to foster closer cooperation,” says Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.
The delegation to Japan is part of Road to Osaka – an initiative led by Team Sweden (Business Sweden, the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo, and other partners) as a prelude to Sweden’s and the Nordic region’s participation at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
“Japan’s role as host of World Expo 2025, combined with South Korea’s significance as a partner in energy and industrial collaboration, underscores the importance of this delegation. Additionally, this mission ties into the Join Sweden Summit, an investment conference organised by Business Sweden in Stockholm early next year, where we anticipate strong representation from both countries,” adds Larsson.
The Japan program aligns with Expo 2025’s themes, focusing on innovation, green transition, and advanced technologies. During the Sweden-Japan Sustainability Summit, high-level representatives from government, business, and academia will explore joint strategies to accelerate the green transition, focusing on circularity, reducing emissions in healthcare, and energy efficiency.
The Join Sweden Strategic Partnership Lunch will bring together leading Japanese companies to discuss partnerships and investments, particularly in green energy, healthcare, digitalisation, and manufacturing.
“This delegation, along with Sweden’s participation in Expo 2025, offers Swedish companies a unique platform to showcase their visions and contributions to the future. With strong support from official Sweden, we are building a robust platform to engage Japanese and international stakeholders in strategically important areas,” says Carsten Grönblad, Secretary of Commerce in Japan.
In South Korea, the program includes high-level meetings focused on strengthening industrial cooperation in strategic sectors, a roundtable on energy cooperation, and visits to leading Korean conglomerates. A session highlighting Sweden as an investment destination will also take place, setting the stage for the Join Sweden Summit next year.
“South Korea is Sweden’s third-largest export market in Asia. This delegation allows Swedish companies to strengthen trade relations, gain access to key customers and decision-makers, and highlight Sweden as an attractive investment destination for Korean investors. Additionally, the program offers valuable insights into the operations of leading Korean conglomerates,” concludes Johan Chun, Secretary for Trade in South Korea.
