Racing Promotion Private Limited (RPPL), the organizer of the Formula-4 Street Race in Chennai, has filed an urgent memo with the Madras high court seeking an extension of time to secure FIA clearance for the race.
The high court approved the conduct of the race on Friday, subject to obtaining FIA clearance by 12 pm today.
In its memo, the organizer stated that FIA officials who inspected the track had suggested certain changes to a specific corner of the track, and the work is expected to be completed by 6 pm today.
“Since the FIA certification process is not yet complete, the race schedule will undergo changes. Therefore, the time fixed by the court to obtain the clearance requires an extension of 6 hours,” RPPL said.
RPPL also noted that certain work was delayed due to sudden rains in Chennai yesterday. The organization stated that more than Rs 200 crore has been spent on the race, over 5,000 tickets have been sold, and there would be serious prejudice and irreparable hardship to the firm if the extension of time is not granted.
A special bench of Justice R Suresh Kumar and Justice PB Balaji will took up the plea.
